TAS AMSA 2008 Conference Student Prize

The Tasmanian branch of AMSA (Australian Marine Science Association) is offering up to $800 to support student travel to the 2008 joint AMSA/NZMSS Conference being held in Christchurch, New Zealand from 7-10th July.  

The prize money is to help successful applicants meet costs associated with airfares to Christchurch, Conference registration and accommodation for the duration of the Conference. Students awarded the Tas AMSA Prize, and all other applicants, will still eligible to apply to the national AMSA Committee for the student travel subsidy. Students presenting at the conference will also be eligible for a range of student prizes (see www.amsa.asn.au/students/studentawards.php).  

Award Rules

  • 1. Preference may be given to a student who has not previously presented at a conference and who is presenting an oral presentation.
  • 2. Candidates MUST be financial AMSA members. For Membership details please see: https://www.amsa.asn.au/members/newmembers.php
  • 3. The winner will be expected to provide a short biography, an abstract of their paper and a short account of the conference for publication in the AMSA Bulletin.

Deadline and Submission of Applications

The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Monday 28th April. No late applications will be considered.  Applications should be emailed to: jacqui.foster@aad.gov.au.

Applications

Applicants should include:

  • 1. Details of their student status and institution (including contact details for Primary Supervisor).
  • 2. Title and abstract of the paper to be presented.
  • 3. A brief statement outlining why the work is significant, why it should be presented and why the candidate would benefit from attending the conference.
  • 4. A brief curriculum vitae and list of any publications and conference activity.
  • 5. Amount requested and details of support received from other sources.

Judging and Announcement

The Council of TAS AMSA will choose the winner and notify the winner via email in sufficient time to register by the deadline for early bird registration, which closes 23rd May, 2008.
